I was wondering if they were any activity/thought on adding the Hierarchical progressive surveys (HiPS) as an image provider for Cesium.
They are more and more used in astronomy to provide full sky surveys datasets. And are becoming a de facto standard for the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA)

HiPS is based on the Healpix pixelization, better suited for astronomical applications, and share a lot of features with any progressive Tile Image service.
In principle, it should not be to hard to implement an hips image provider, and I wanted to know if there were already some activity towards that, which would open Cesium to the whole astronomy community.
