Cesium ion MCP Server: first release, and we'd love your feedback

Hi everyone,

We just shipped the first release of the Cesium ion MCP Server, which connects your Cesium ion data to AI agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Point a tool like Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Desktop, or ChatGPT at your ion account, and you can work with your assets in natural language: finding datasets, checking tiling status, querying individual elements inside BIM and CAD models, and more. It’s a free feature for every ion user, and you can embed an agent in your own apps too.

More detail are available on the blog.

This first version covers the most important parts of the ion REST API. It’s very much a starting point, and where it goes next depends a lot on what you all need, so this is the thread for that.

We’d especially love to hear:

  • Which tools or workflows should we add next?

  • Which client are you connecting from, and how did setup go?

  • What are you building, or hoping to build, with it?

  • Any rough edges, confusing behavior, or bugs?

Thanks!
