Cesium ion to block access from Russia in compliance with new U.S. regulations

Hello Cesium Community,

This is an update for our users in Russia and for those of you who provide solutions that include Cesium ion to users in Russia.

Starting September 12, new U.S. regulations prohibit Cesium from providing Cesium ion and other Cesium services to people and entities in Russia. To comply, we are required to stop all software services to Russia, which includes preventing Cesium ion logins as well as preventing token-based requests for data streaming. In other words, Russian end users of an application will not be able to stream content from or access APIs for Cesium ion.

Read more about the Executive Order for this requirement in this document from the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Cesium is acting now to comply with this regulation.

  • We will begin blocking logins and other access from Russia soon. If our blockers determine a user is located in Russia, it will not be possible override the block.
  • If we believe you are located in Russia, your account will be disabled prior to September 12.

Regards,
