We plan to support other archive formats in the near future. But a final decision about the supported archive formats has not been made yet.
The 3TZ format lends itself as a candidate for one of the formats that can be supported, because it is very similar to a plain ZIP file. But there are technical questions (about the version and compression options) and organizational questions (about an official standardization of 3TZ) that have to be answered before we can officially support 3TZ.
@Marco13 you mentioned that Cesium is looking in supporting archive formats.
Any update on the direction Cesium is taking on archive formats??
There is no support for 3TZ as a package/archive format for the download yet.

This format is already used internally.3tz: There is some support for 3TZ packages in the3d-tiles-tools. For example, you can use theconvertcommand to convert from/to 3TZ, including a conversion of the ZIP files that you downloaded with the official ‘archives and exports’ functionality into 3TZ. But a direct download of 3TZ is not yet supported.
