Google 2D Map Compatibility with CesiumJS

Hello,

I’d like to display the 2D map from Google Maps, but the service doesn’t seem to be compatible with CesiumJS.

We’re able to display Google’s 3D map tiles, but not the 2D maps from the Maps API.

Is this truly not supported?
Do you know if it will become available in an upcoming release?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Victor

Hi @Victor_WIREDTeam ,

Thanks for your post and for being part of the Cesium community.

We offer several imagery and terrain layers that we curate so they can be called with build-in functions from the CesiumJS library and streamed into an application. The 2D Google Map is not one of these and I do not believe we have any current plans to add it. We do offer a 3D product from Google, the Photorealistic 3D Tiles, as you said you were aware.

Some of the other free curated imagery and terrain layers might be of interest to you. You can view them in the imagery layer picker which can be accessed in the top right corner of our sandcastle tool https://sandcastle.cesium.com/ screenshot here

In particular, the Bing Maps Aerial with Labels, Bing Maps Roads, and Open Street Maps might be good to check out, all three combine contextual elements like roads, placenames and borders with terrain.

Please let us know if we can answer and further questions for you.
Best,
Luke
