How do I get someone from Cesium to contact me regarding Enterprise???

1. A concise explanation of the problem you’re experiencing.

I need an offline tile and geometry solution with data. Been trying to contact someone at Cesium.com for over a week - nobody seems to be following up. Sales people are usually like animals where you feed them they never leave you alone…

What’s a sure way to contact someone at Cesium?

3. Context. Why do you need to do this? We might know a better way to accomplish your goal.

I need to operate a system with high resolution imagery in a location that has no internet access. I need access to imagery and elevation data.

While I have found ways to stand up and run my own MBTiles solution, the commercially available MapBox data doesn’t appear to have very good resolution - or the samples are just wrong; however this still leaves me without elevation data. If Cesium can provide an offline solution - I want to discuss this with them…

If anyone has an alternative solution that is relatively turnkey - I’m all ears.

Thanks,

Jim

There’s really two different questions here:

  • How do I serve self-hosted imagery and terrain data?

  • What high-res imagery and terrain sources are available?

My project at work has to serve Cesium imagery and terrain in an isolated environment as well, so over time I’ve put together a small Python service for serving static tiles from MBTiles files. I regenerated our terrain dataset from scratch last year, based on the publicly available 30m ALOS dataset. We’re currently using some lower-res imagery. I tried contacting a few companies like MapBox and Planet last year asking about purchasing imagery datasets, with no real luck.

Not sure what “high res” specifically means in your case. As a starting point, I’d strongly recommend looking at https://openmaptiles.com/ , which has a worldwide 20m/px dataset available for an incredibly reasonable price ($2000), and already in MBTiles format.

I’ve long wanted to do some writeups on the tooling and conversion processes I’ve implemented, but sadly I’ve got far too much else on my plate and don’t have time.

Happy to answer questions if you’ve got any, though.

Sorry to hear about your frustration Jim. We’ve been working on expanding for the last few months since our spin out announcement (https://cesium.com/blog/2019/07/09/announcing-cesium-series-a-investment/) so there’s a lot going on. I would follow up again if you haven’t already, and you can CC me (omar@cesium.com) and I’ll make sure it gets to the right person.

In the mean time, you can read about the accuracy/resolution of the data we have available for offline use here:

https://cesium.com/content/

You can also test it on Cesium ion to see if it’s resolution you need. It’s the Sentinel 2 imagery:

And also comes with the Cesium World Terrain:
