I’m wondering if the compass + zoom buttons with in displayed in ion stories is something “standard” included in the CesiumJS library or not.

It’s not standard. But you can fully customize it.
I can provide my code, but it’s the part of a complex project.
Instead, please refer to this code. It looks more simple to understand.
