Content and Processed Content right to Cesium

In the Cesium iON Terms-of-Service (Terms Of Service – Cesium), it is mentioned that
“In order for Cesium to host Your Content and Processed Content, you grant Cesium a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, and sub-licensable right and license to use, display, use, cache, copy, distribute, modify, transmit, and store Your Content and Processed Content. You affirm that you have the right to grant these rights to Cesium.”

How is Cesium allowed to display, use, cache, copy, distribute, modify, transmit, and store customer data as it seems to be in violation to data protection of the customer. Is this true for a commercial (purchased) version of Cesium iON as well? Kindly clarify.

Hello!

I can understand your wanting to be clear about this. The key is this phrase:

In order for Cesium to host Your Content and Processed Content

If you agree to the Cesium ion terms, the ONLY ways we are permitted to use your content are those required to provide you with the Cesium ion service (aka hosting your content). For example, hosting includes storage, running tilers against your data to generate 3D Tiles, streaming your content when you request it, and internal quality assurance processes (to understand the cause of failures, for example). The terms do not give us rights to use your content for any purpose that isn’t directly required to provide you with the Cesium ion service, or to share your content with anyone but you.

I hope this helps.
