Point Cloud Rendering: Default Point Shape Changed from Square to Round since v1.138

Hello, Support Team,

I noticed that starting from CesiumJS 1.138, the default rendering shape of each point in point clouds appears to have changed from square to round/circular.

Could you please let us know if there is a way to revert to the previous default square shape?

I believe this is a matter of user preference — some users prefer the round style, while others prefer the square style — so having a configurable option would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support.

(I moved this to the CesiumJS section).

This looks like a clear regression for me. I traced back the code change that caused this, and opened Point shape was changed from squares to circles · Issue #13217 · CesiumGS/cesium · GitHub

Hi Marco13,

Thank you for your response.

It is true that some users do prefer round point rendering for point clouds, so I completely understand the motivation behind the change.

That said, it would be wonderful if the point shape (square or round) could be configurable by the user, regardless of whether the glTF extension is present or not.

Thank you again for your time and support.

Yes, that’s what I also mentioned in the comment at Point shape was changed from squares to circles · Issue #13217 · CesiumGS/cesium · GitHub . It sounds like a low-hanging fruit, and there have been requests about changing the shape, e.g. at Change the shape of the points in the tileset and other places. It doesn’t seem to be a priority, though, who knows.

However, you may have seen that the regression was fixed in the meantime, via Fix point-rendering regression where square points become circular by markschlosseratbentley · Pull Request #13219 · CesiumGS/cesium · GitHub , and the default shape will be squares again with the next release.
