Hi,
Let me start by explaining I don’t know very much about 3D modelling. The company I work for has 3D models; these are designed in SolidWorks. I would like to create a tech demo where these models are displayed in Cesium. As such I’m trying to figure out how I can end up with a collada file from a SolidWorks file.
I have searched the web, but the results are a little confusing for someone without much domain specific knowledge here. There is information on the web that suggests that exporting directly out of SolidWorks to Collada will result in a very high poly count which I’m guessing isn’t good for performance. Also, I have tried to do something similar in the past back in the Google Earth API days, but the 3D model came out with no texture / colour information. I can ask the hardware designer here but I’m trying to figure out as much as I can before going to him.
Has anyone successfully exported a SolidWorks model to Cesium, with texture / colour information, and could point me in the right direction? I will also try a SolidWorks forum or something as I am aware glTF / Collada are not specific to Cesium, but I thought someone here may know?
Thanks
