It is possible to remove the credits by calling destroy.
However can someone tell me if it is legal to do so and permitted by the licence?

We don’t require you show the Cesium logo in your application, though we certainly appreciate it when people keep it.
However, many imagery providers like Bing do require attribution. You’ll have to look into the license for the imagery provider you are using.
