City model buildings can't be placed in the right position

Hello everyone,

I am a new user of Cesium ion and I have a problem I haven’t been able to solve, hope someone can help me.

I made a city model with Autodesk Infraworks, exported it as .fbx and imported on Cesium ion (tile as 3D tiles). The model itself shows up correctly, but I’m not able to move it to the exact right position.

Basically I try matching my buildings with the building in the aerial photo I uploaded. But when the buildings in the bottom of the city model match with the position of the buildings in the aerial photo, the buildings in the top or the right/left don’t match anymore. Same thing happens the other way around.

I have attached some pictures. In the first picture, the buildings in the bottom match the aerial photo. In second picture, my model is in the same position but the buildings in the top do not match.

I would be very thankful for help.

Hi,

A couple of things:

  1. When you say you have uploaded an image to be the base layer to the model, do you have an example of these models overlayed on the image? The model you are uploading may not perfectly align with the base image which may be causing the issue
  2. If you are able to, you can try to upload the bottom sections of the model and top sections of the model as individual assets. This will allow you to georeference these assets individually so that they both align with the image

Hello,

  1. I have worked with the same base image and models on Arcgis Pro as well as Autodesk Infraworks and they align perfectly there so I thought the issue might be with Cesium. In the first image of my original post you can see the buildings in the right positions (I realize now grey was not the ideal color, will change that)

  2. I could try that with the buildings. I have modeled roads and trees for my city model as well and I will try uploading those in the next few days but hopefully I don’t have the same issue as with the buildings. Uploading just sections of roads doesn’t seem ideal

Hi,

Thanks for the information, can you please tell me the asset ids of the two assets (imagery and the model), I can create an issue for the team to look at what may be going on

Thanks,
Ankit
