Jason Sobotka and I will be presenting on our journey to bring Gaussian splatting into 3D Tiles and glTF at the Cesium Developer Conference in June. We’re excited to be sharing this with you all and a preview of our presentation is below:
The past year Cesium has been working to bring Gaussian splatting to CesiumJS & 3D Tiles using glTF as an open-standards alternative to the ubiquitous PLY format. Our draft glTF extension proposal, first presented at SIGGRAPH 2024, brings performant rendering of Gaussian splatting to CesiumJS. With interest in a new format for Gaussian splatting growing and Niantic releasing their SPZ compression for splats, we’ve continued to grow our draft glTF extension by utilizing SPZ for efficient compression of splat data. This talk explores our development process, the challenges we’ve experienced, Cesium’s approach to open standards, and how we believe Gaussian splatting will shape the future of the graphics and geospatial ecosystems.
Don’t forget to register now before space runs out! Looking forward to seeing you all in June!
