Hello!
I am participating in ESA’s CanSat competition this year and would like to use Cesium Ion (i. e. 3D map data) for this project. However, I am unsure if this use case is covered by the Community licensing plan or if I need to purchase a commercial license for this, does anyone know more about this?
Hi @Bouilloire . Welcome to the Cesium community.
There are a number of factors that affect if you need a commercial license.
If that page doesn’t answer your questions, we can help figure out what plan you need. To get started, what type of organization this work for? (eg. commercial company, government, educatoinal institution, independent project)
Thank you @mdc9001! I’ve already checked out the link you provided before posting but was unsure what would count as “funded educational research”. While the competition itself is hosted by ESA, I am part of a highschool team (affiliated with that school) and we do have sponsors. I suppose that falls under “working on a government project”, right?

A goverment project would be if you were working directly for ESA. This would be classified as an educational activity since you are doing it as part of your high school team.
Funded educational research is typically a researcher working at a university who has gotten a grant from a goverment or organization. A sponsored high school team might be closer to an unfunded educational activity. Let me reach out to some colleages and see if I can get clarification on this.
