What do you think about the new Discourse forum?

We’ve migrated from Google Groups to Discourse 2 weeks ago now - how are you liking the new forum? Do you have any favorite part of the transition? Any suggestions you have or things you’d like to see?

We’re looking for feedback both from a usability perspective (like is it easy to format your posts the way you want? are there other login providers you wish you could use) as well as meta feedback about the community as a whole (do you feel like there’s a place for the discussions you want to see? Are there any topic/categories you’d suggest, is it easy to find the answers you need etc)

Discourse has so many features we’re still exploring, so if you have any suggestions we’d love to hear them!

I haven’t actually written any posts here yet, so this is actually kind of a test post

I was pleased to see that just by logging in with Github once, it picked up on all my old posts. That may be because I have my Gmail account as a secondary email on my Github account.

From a daily usage standpoint, I wanted to be able to see what posts are new/updated each time I open the forum, and there’s a “New” nav link right at the top making that easy.

The post editing field seems reasonable as I’m writing this now - live preview, and it says it supports Markdown, which is excellent since that’s what my fingers are used to writing everywhere else.

So, I’d say this looks pretty good so far.

@omar I took the advanced user tutorial with Cesium_Concierge and it was soooo much fun. The interaction with the bot was really cool! It even gave me a certificate lol, oh boy… :sunglasses:

Hi! To find out what I can do, say @Cesium_Concierge display help.

Oh this is awesome - I hadn’t tried going through that myself! I bet we can customize that to include some Cesium-specific things here (like how to embed a Cesium Story on the forum, or the how to share Sandcastle tips I posted here: How to share custom Sandcastle examples).

Just noticed that the forum migration tool didn’t seem to retain code blocks formatting. For example:

lost all the indentation formatting of the original

No big deal though, at least all of the data is present on the conversion.
