Google 3D Map Tiles Floating in Wrong Position

I use Cesium in Unreal to visualize heavy marine construction projects on the water.

I had a project in Cesium I made in Oct 2024 that was working as expected but in December I loaded it again and the map tiles were floating 20ft off the terrain. I thought at first it was a Cesium issue but I actually see the error on google maps 3D too:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Weehawken+Township,+NJ+07086/@40.7622382,-74.0191588,159a,35y,39.52t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x89c258301585d001:0x254f9f592d089a94!8m2!3d40.7714596!4d-74.0192872!16zL20vMHhuOXA?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDEyMi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

You can see all the trees along the waters edge are floating about 20ft above where they should be. I experience the exact same issue in Cesium too.

Unfortunately it has made using Cesium with google for my use case unusable.

Is Cesium aware of this issue? I filed a bug report with Google last week but they haven’t responded and I doubt they ever will. Maybe there is a chance Cesium has a contact at Google Map Tiles API that could look into this.

Hi @George_Rivara, welcome to the community!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused. We’ll use our contacts to make this more known to Google. I can’t promise what the response time will be or when action will be taken, but we’ll do our best to make sure there is awareness of the issue. :crossed_fingers:
